BCI becomes a hot topic like in 2019, then Musk raised it again and again with multiple potential applications which looks like a science fiction. How far away it might become real?
- Basically BCI is the interface trying to collect the EEG from human to machine and deliver message via TMS technology from machine to human

Actually it is not hard to collect the information from the brain now. EEG is a very mature product collecting micro electrics from our mind activities. The hard part is how to identify the EEG waveform into certain activities. Nowadays this part is making progress in many different companies. (Cyberkinetics, Neuralink, Kernel, Shaonao-BCI etc). Hopefully the technology will get breakthrough in two or three years.
2. What would be the application of this technology?
Looks like BCI can help blinded to see, deaf to listen, disability to walk, maybe even end stage heart failure patient to live with a robot body?
It is a very intereting thing when BCI actually become into application, how human mind can drive a machine to listen, to see, a robot hand to grab, to walk and maybe eventually blur the boundary of carbon-based creature and silicon-based creature.
3. When technology is ready, the ethical problem will further step in. Neuralink is already struggling in ethical issue with animal test. Simliar to Clone technology, BCI could be stopped by ethical problem maybe for next 20 years. Maybe until something big happen (Interstellar Travel maybe :)).
